Why Go on a Pilgrimage?
A Pilgrimage is about letting God surprise you and allowing the journey to grow you closer to yourself and to God. It’s about receiving the gifts along the way of people, places, and even the interruptions.
On pilgrimage, you grow as you go.
After the years of pandemic I was emotionally exhausted. As an extrovert without people, and without in-person work, I needed to find my joy again. I needed to go on pilgrimage. I went to Scotland in May of 2022, and it changed my life. I have been on pilgrimage to Scotland before, and led others on pilgrimage to other places in Europe and Ireland, but this was a pilgrimage to my very favorite place on the planet, the island of Iona. Maybe you are feeling this exhaustion too, maybe you need to go on pilgrimage.
Why Iona? Iona is known as a thinplace...a place where the veil between heaven and earth is thin. A place where you can, and do, experience the presence of the Holy.
St. Columba landed on Iona with his 12 monks to start a community in 563 AD. People of faith have prayed on Iona for almost 1500 years, and you can feel this as you step off the Ferry!
We will be on Iona from Aug 30-Sept 4th staying at the beautiful St. Columba Hotel. We’ll eat amazing, gourmet food together. We will take walks around the island out to the beautiful beaches. We’ll discover the magic of the people, and the place through field trips to local artists and time at the Abbey.
